I am a New York City based artist who works within oils and mixed media, employing a painting style that is both abstract expressionist as well as conceptual. My primary focus is the psyche and human figure/form. Having spent the last 15 years within the world of advertising and digital media as a creative marketer and strategist, my recent works tend to incorporate technology based materials.
‘In the Pursuit of Happiness Series’:
Starting in early 2011, I began to develop a series of mixed media works that explores different states of emotions such as desire, despair, rage, hope, reflection, fear, relief, etc. For each piece, I break through the top layer of the canvas via punching, cutting or burning the canvas. I then incorporate a second layer of canvas below the exposed areas and paint this layer a specific color as well as incorporate different materials such as pepper, to ash, lipstick, prozac pills, wine, sugar, creams – all dependent upon the emotion I am trying to express (and the surplus of available materials in my apartment). I have created about 30 of these works and continue to develop more works on a regular basis.
My work has been exhibited and sold both within the US and Europe, most recent exhibitions with Gen Art and Frere Independent/Pool Art in NYC.
